Where is my WordPress sitemap?
/wp-sitemap.xml, or /sitemap_index.xml with Yoast SEO or Rank Math
WordPress 5.5 and later builds a sitemap at /wp-sitemap.xml. SEO plugins such as Yoast SEO and Rank Math replace it with their own index at /sitemap_index.xml. You don't need to know which: we find it through /sitemap.xml and your robots.txt.

A leftover “Discourage search engines” setting
Ticked on a staging site and copied to live, it adds noindex to every page. We flag every noindex page listed in your sitemap.
Old permalinks that now redirect
Changing your permalink structure or a post's slug leaves redirects behind. Sitemaps should list final URLs, so we list every one that redirects.
Thin archive pages
Tag, category and author archives with only a line or two of text get flagged as thin content, so you can noindex them or remove them from the sitemap.
Missing or duplicate meta descriptions
Without an SEO plugin filling them in, many themes leave descriptions empty or repeat the same one on every page.
Slow pages
Heavy themes and plugin stacks show up as slow responses. We list your slowest pages first.
Images without alt text
Common in older posts and galleries.
Quick fixes for WordPress
- Settings → Reading → make sure “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” is off.
- If you use Yoast SEO or Rank Math, exclude post types and taxonomies you've set to noindex from the sitemap.
- After fixing redirects, resubmit your sitemap in Google Search Console.
